After KKR partnered with Integrated Specialty Coverages (“ISC” or the “Company”) in 2021, KKR and the ISC founding leadership team worked together to build a technology-enabled insurance leader by expanding ISC’s market presence, enhancing its product offerings, and transforming the underwriting and operation of complex insurance programs. From the beginning, KKR supported ISC in implementing a broad-based employee ownership and alignment program to increase worker engagement and allow all colleagues the opportunity to participate in the benefits of an ownership culture.
Throughout its partnership with KKR, ISC’s leadership team and employee-owners championed this broad-based ownership program which translated directly into superior performance and business outcomes, including a +23% EBITDA CAGR from 2021-24. Measurable results across the organization included:
- Employee Engagement: Advanced from the 76th to the 91st percentile in Gallup assessment scores
- Ownership Culture: Achieved top-decile performance on the Ownership Works index with employee ownership sentiment increasing by +23%
- Talent Retention: Realized a 50% reduction in voluntary employee attrition since 2022
In September 2025, KKR announced the sale of ISC to Onex Partners. As a result of ISC's broad-based ownership program, all of the Company's nearly 400 colleagues will receive cash payouts upon closing of the transaction, with payouts ranging from three months to thirty months of annual pay for the most tenured employees.
In this video, ISC CEO Matt Grossberg and KKR Partner Chris Harrington discuss ISC’s journey with KKR and what the sale means for the entire ISC team.
Since 2011, we have supported companies in implementing broad-based employee ownership programs throughout our portfolio, and in 2022, KKR committed to deploying the ownership model in all new control investments across the entire Americas Private Equity platform. To date, more than 75 KKR portfolio companies have awarded billions of dollars in equity to over 180,000 non-senior management employees. KKR is also a founding partner of the cross-sector initiative Ownership Works, a nonprofit on a mission to increase prosperity by developing and implementing broad-based employee ownership programs.
